Old-timey party games

I've posted before about some old-timey games. Today, I'm going to add a few more that are fun for Little House-themed parties and other group activities. First:  Drop the Clothespins in the Bottle. This game is very simple (pretty much exactly what it sounds like) but it can be quite a test of manual dexterity. Use a wide-mouthed jar to make it easier for younger kids, or a ketchup bottle for a super challenge.
Second, the classic Pin the Tail on the Donkey. This one is also pretty self-explanatory. The nice thing is, this game can be adapted to any theme. For example, you could pin the horses on the wagon or something like that to fit a Little House theme.

Third, the old favorite Musical Chairs. This one is most fun when you have a larger group. You could adapt this to a Little House theme by playing old-timey fiddle music.

Fourth and finally, to round out this post, a Little House Club favorite, Button, button, who's got the button. One variation we've used is to put the button on a piece of string, tie it in a loop, and have all the players hold onto the loop as they stand in a circle. This eliminates the possibility of younger or klutzier players dropping the button when attempting to pass it. (I'm speaking to myself here. I tend to drop things.)

You can read about some party games and group activities in On the Banks of Plum Creek chapters "Town Party", "Country Party", and "The Day of Games". I drew inspiration for this post from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books as well as from this article on throwing a Little House-themed party.

What is your favorite old-timey game?
