Father Wilder

Wilder family photo (Father is third from the left)
Last Monday I blogged about Mother Wilder, so today's post is about Father Wilder to round out the pair.
James Mason Wilder was born in 1813 in Vermont. He married Angeline Day and they had six children together in New York State. (Only four appear in Farmer Boy.) He died in 1899 in Louisiana.

There are innumerable examples in Farmer Boy of his character development. To describe him in a few words, I'd say he was sensible, intelligent, kind, frugal, successful as a farmer, and in possession of a great sense of humor. Honestly, though, to get a good sense of Father Wilder as Laura Ingalls Wilder characterized him, I would recommend just reading Farmer Boy

Here's his article on Laura Ingalls Wilder, Frontier Girl.
And here's his record on Ancestry.com.

How is your dad like Father Wilder? How is he different?
