'Tis the season for flowers to be blooming everywhere! One of my favorite flowers is lavender. I love its lovely dusty-purple color, its fresh scent, and its many uses in old-fashioned crafts. These crafts can beautify the home in true "Ma Ingalls" low-cost style.

One "no-brainer" craft with lavender is making a lavender sachet. You will need dried lavender blossoms and something to put them in. You could use a lovely little pre-made organza bag or sew your own. Once you've filled your bag with sweet-smelling lavender, place it in a dresser drawer, closet, or car to cover icky scents and infuse the surroundings with the scent of lavender.
A lavender wand is a slightly more elegant take on the simple sachet. Here's a great tutorial for making a lavender wand. You will need fresh lavender with long stems, and several yards of 1/4 inch wide ribbon. Try this one with a friend - it can be tricky or frustrating or both to attempt to hold all the lavender stems in place. When your lavender wand is finished, you can carry it in your handbag, hang it in your kitchen, or place it in your sock drawer.
Do you like the smell of lavender?

You can put lavender sachets under your pillow at night too, as the scent is known to help with sleep.
