Tissue paper flowers

As any "Little House" reader knows, Ma loved her home to be tidy, economical, and beautiful. I think she would approve of today's post, in which I tell you how to make flowers out of tissue paper. These flowers make lovely decorations anywhere in the home as they bring some outdoor color indoors. You can make them to suit any theme or taste.

How to make paper flowers:
Step 1 - Gather your supplies. You will need several sheets of tissue paper in the color(s) of your choice, a pipe cleaner, and scissors.
Step 2 - Cut tissue paper into rectangles. Stack them (alternating colors looks cool) and fold accordion style. Experiment with different amounts of tissue paper and sizes of folds to get different effects.
Step 3 - Twist the pipe cleaner "stem" around the center of the tissue-paper bundle. You want to crinkle the spot where you wrap the pipe cleaner, but not too tightly.
Step 4 - Trim the sides of the tissue paper. Different shapes of cut will make different-looking flowers. Experiment with straight-across cuts, curves of different depths, and pointy triangles.
Step 5 - This is where the magic happens! Gently separate the layers of tissue paper from one another to create your flower.
Step 6 - Step back and admire your creation! Hang it up, set it in a vase, make a bouquet, give it away, make some more, ...the possibilities are endless!
In this selfie, you can see my paper flowers gracing my old bulletin board. These are made slightly differently than the ones I described above, but it's the same general idea. [Sorry - they're the only photos I could find that showed my beflowered board at all.]

If you're having trouble making your own paper flowers, view this tutorial video from eHow that shows the process.
