Do you like dried plums, or, as some insist they're called, prunes? (It seems that a prune is a specific type of plum, but dried plums are also called prunes.)
There's a Little House story for that!
Turn to On the Banks of Plum Creek chapter 9 "Grasshopper Weather", or simply click through to read how Laura and Mary picked plums by the aptly-named Plum Creek and Ma dried them. This was a frugal way for Ma, the ever-resourceful cook, to preserve the fruit for the winter.
If you want to follow Ma's example and sun dry your own fruit (plums, berries, cherries, apples, peaches, tomatoes, and more), here's an article with instructions. As long as it's at least 85 degrees Fahrenheit or so where you are, you're good to go!
What's your favorite summer fruit?

I love your blog! The Little House books are some of my all-time favorites. I just started drying produce last summer. We dried peaches and they were absolutely fabulous. Definitely going to dry a lot more this year!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words! It's always nice to hear from a reader. Glad you like the blog! Good luck on the drying produce!
