Mr. Edwards

If you've read the "Little House" books at all, you know that Mr. Edwards is one of the most memorable characters outside the Ingalls family. He always seems to show up when they most need a friend, ready to give Christmas gifts or contribute surreptitiously to Mary's education.
Wikipedia summarizes Mr. Edwards's appearances in the "Little House" books really well:
As stated by Wilder in her books, Mr. Edwards was "the wildcat from Tennessee" whom the Ingalls met during their stay near Independence, Kansas in the Little House on the Prairie novel. They met for a short while also in By the Shores of Silver Lake, when Mr. Edwards helps Pa file his claim during a sudden settlement rush, and in The Long Winter, when he generously gives the now-blind Mary a $20 bill.
The Ingalls family never saw him again.

Laura Ingalls Wilder, Frontier Girl tells a similar tale.

Somewhat like the book character, the historical Mr. Edwards proves elusive when we try to search for him. Historians think that Mr. Edwards was fictional or a "composite character" (a fusion of several historical people into one literary character, like Nellie Oleson). Some think that a man named Edmund Mason was the basis for Mr. Edwards's character. This is the grave of Edmund Mason.

To conclude:
You never thought you'd see a Twilight reference on my blog.

Have you ever had a Good Samaritan like Mr. Edwards in your life?

Elizabeth
