I'm writing this on a school night and it's getting a bit late, so I'm going to take the easy way out and share a link to a recipe with you today.
Rye 'n' injun bread is mentioned in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Farmer Boy as part of one of Mother Wilder's delicious meals. Does anyone around here know what makes this variety of bread special? I didn't before I looked it up. Rye 'n' injun is made with a mixture of rye and cornmeal (as the name suggests), and it's steamed like a pudding, not baked like your typical bread. Interesting! I'll have to try making it sometime.
I mentioned rye 'n' injun bread in this October post on the similar Boston brown bread, but I realized I never actually shared a recipe for rye 'n' injun. Therefore, here's a recipe that claims to be from the Little House Cookbook. Enjoy!
As always, feel free to share this post if you liked it.
