Transportation must have been much more interesting in Laura Ingalls Wilder's day than in ours. Automobiles are very nice for getting from point A to point B, but they don't have personality in the same way horses do. A couple memorable teams of horses are featured in
These Happy Golden Years. Do you remember their names? I'm thinking of Prince and Lady, as well as Barnum and Skip. These two teams played an important role in Almanzo and Laura's courtship, as they took the young couple on all their winter sleigh rides and springtime buggy rides.

The Morgan breed of horses in particular was close to the Wilders' hearts. The folks over at
Laura Ingalls Wilder, Frontier Girl have written
a great article about Morgan horses.
Thanks for reading! Come back on Wednesday for a very special birthday post. (Is it just me, or have all the "Little House" birthdays been packed into the last few weeks? Weird...)
