25 Days Until Christmas!
Second, the next installment in my Holiday Recipe Bonanza: mincemeat and mince pie.
Mincemeat has seen some pretty drastic changes to its recipe since its invention in medieval England, and so has the traditional Christmas mince pie in which it's most commonly found. It's possible that the mince pie Laura and family ate in the time of the "Little House" books was very different than the mince pie we serve at Christmas these days.
Here's a page with lots of information and recipes for making your own mincemeat pie.
Here's a more traditional mincemeat pie filling recipe which includes beef.
Here's a more modern mince pie recipe without meat.
My third, and perhaps most important part of today's post is a birthday shoutout to my astonishingly cool dad, who, along with my mom, read the "Little House" books aloud to me when I was little. Without him, this blog more than likely wouldn't exist. (But then again, neither would I...) Have a very happy birthday, Pa!
