Little House on television

Usually when I say something about the "Little House" books, people respond by saying, "Oh, Little House on the Prairie. I loved that TV show." No, folks, I was talking about the book, which came first!

Personally, I grew up with the books only and I've always preferred books to television. But the TV show(s) are important to Little House history because they introduce so many people to Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved books. See how I always bring the discussion back to the books?

How many of us watched this show growing up? Although it often departed from the stories told in the "Little House" books, the show introduced zillions of viewers to Laura Ingalls Wilder's vivid characters, including Pa, Laura, and Nellie.
Besides the well-known show above that we know and love, there are a few other, more obscure, television shows based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's books.
A Japanese anime series called "Laura, the Prairie Girl" aired in 1975.
"Beyond the Prairie" involved two made-for-television movies that focused first on Laura as a teenager and then on her early married life with Almanzo.
Finally, this six-episode miniseries from 2005 was based on Little House in the Big Woods and Little House on the Prairie

Hope you enjoyed this post about the television shows based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" books. Check back Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for more posts about all things "Little House!"
