A historic home site

While I was doing a bit of research for Wednesday's post about Almanzo Wilder, I came across something intriguing...

The Almanzo Wilder homestead - photo from the website

Apparently the Wilder homestead near Malone, New York, where Almanzo grew up, has been turned into a museum and historic site. Upstate New York would be a bit of a trek for me to go there myself, but I wonder if any LHCO readers have visited the site?

Sadly, I've never visited a Little House historic site. The closest I've come is this: when I was very young, my dad went on a business trip close enough to the Pepin, Wisconsin cabin that he visited it and took photos for me. Someday, maybe I'll have a chance to see the places Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family lived. Until then, I can live vicariously over the internet...

The website for the Wilder family homestead, linked above, says, "This historic house is the only ORIGINAL house on its original site of all those written about in the Little House book series. It is the only site dedicated to and original to Almanzo Wilder. It is an important piece of northern New York history."
