First of all,
Twenty Days Until Christmas!
Second of all, today is the 126th anniversary of the birth of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Almanzo Wilder's daughter Rose Wilder Lane.
Rose only appears in the final "Little House" book, The First Four Years, as a very young girl. However, Rose was tremendously important to Laura's writing. She encouraged her mother to begin writing down Pa's stories from her childhood, and helped Laura to revise her manuscripts and publish them. Laura Ingalls Wilder, Frontier Girl has more information on Rose's life as it related to the "Little House" books.
Rose was an important writer and thinker in her own right as well. She wrote Free Land, a book reminiscent of The First Four Years, and she is remembered as a founder of the American libertarian movement. The Wikipedia page on her has more information on her life in general.
Thanks for reading LHCO! Come back soon for more history, trivia, recipes, crafts, games, and general awesomeness from the "Little House" books!
