Knitting: Not just for Little House anymore.

We often think of knitting and other fiber arts as old-fashioned pursuits, especially since we see them so much in the "Little House" books, but there's been a big resurgence of knitters lately. Modern-day knitters range from children making their first scarves to experienced knitters working on elaborate projects. I think knitting is so popular these days because it's a great way to relax and unwind (pun absolutely intended). The repetitive motion lets you clear your mind of stress. Plus, there's always the sense of accomplishment when you finish a project and get to proudly show it off!
If you'd like to follow in the footsteps of the "Little House" girls and learn to knit, there are plenty of online resources to help you get started (for example, these tutorials). Good luck, and happy knitting!

  1. "Yarn bombing" might be part of the reason there's a resurgence today too. I think it's all the rage among knitters lately. We have a group in my area that does it, and it's always fun to see what they'll cover with their knitting next!
