While Laura and Almanzo were living in Mansfield, Missouri, Laura began her writing career by writing articles for the local farm paper. 

The inside jacket of Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Family Collection reads, "Collected here for the first time are articles originally written by Laura Ingalls Wilder for the Missouri Ruralist, a widely-read farm paper, between 1911 and 1918. They tell us how she lived, what she thought about, and where her affections lay. They are her prelude to the characters and events in the Little House books, and they allow us to glimpse the stages by which one of America's favorite writers mastered her craft
